The MSc in Educational Psychology aims to prepare Trainee Educational Psychologists to work as practitioners of applied educational psychology in local government (usually Education or Social Services), in voluntary agencies and elsewhere, in the U.K. and beyond.

In addition to direct assessment and intervention in a wide variety of contexts, educational psychologists engage in a great deal of indirect work, through consultancy, training, applied research and evaluation, and policy development. This is often in relation to the attainment and welfare of all children and young people, not just those with "additional support needs", and may be preventive rather than post hoc intervention.

The programme seeks to link research and practice to enhance the development of evidence-based practice, and is closely linked with research centres within the university such as the Centre for Peer Learning.
