Our new, exciting and vibrant programme reflects the current priorities in Community Learning and Development in Scotland and the UK. The programme is endorsed by the professional body, the Standards Council for Community Learning and Development for Scotland and on successful completion of the four year programme, you will have a professionally recognised qualification and an academic honours degree in Community Learning and Development.
The knowledge and skills acquired on the programme will prepare you for a variety of innovative employment opportunities in working with adults, young people and communities, in informal community learning settings, both in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
You will get the chance to engage in lively discussions about the issues affecting society today, share ideas and listen to different views, experiences and opinions. For over forty per cent of the programme, you will be in workplace settings, supported by Practice Learning Tutors and involved in sharing your practice experiences with other students. You will also study a range of modules, including an interprofessional module on social justice, alongside primary education and social work students.
If your answer is 'yes', then the BA (Hons) Community Learning and Development programme is for you! Community Learning and Development workers are employed in a range of settings and contexts, and this diversity requires professionals that represent all cultures, ages and backgrounds.
You can study the programme via two modes, the full time mode (which is described above) and the work based mode. As a work based student, you will be required to be in either a paid or voluntary sixteen hour post in a community learning and development setting. You will undertake practice learning in your workplace, which will be supported by a Practice Learning Tutor. You will also attend four university based study block weeks per year.
For entry into Level 1 of the programme, you will require three Highers or two A-Levels and previous experience of voluntary or paid work in community learning and development or a related field. Alternative qualifications, such as SQA National Certificate modules will also be considered.
Prior learning and experience will be accredited, and if you have an advanced entry qualification, such as an HNC Working in Communities and an appropriate level of experience, you are encouraged to apply for advanced entry to the programme. As there are a limited number of places available on both modes of the programme, to avoid disappointment, you should contact us now.
