A degree would normally be required, but weight will be given to relevant experience and clear evidence of management support and agency backing. Participants can elect to study individual modules or can exit the programme with the following postgraduate qualifications:
The programme is offered on a part-time basis. Many of the modules are available as distance learning options with optional on campus workshops. Modules are available on a stand alone basis or can be taken together to enable the candidate to exit the programme with a postgraduate certificate or a postgraduate diploma. Some of the modules offered are core to the programme but others are optional, allowing students a degree of choice. Students who have submitted work of a sufficient standard will be invited to progress to the MSc. Students cannot progress to Diploma without completing the Postgraduate Certificate or on to the Masters without completing the Diploma.
The Postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma/MSc programme is academically credit rated using the SCQF framework and carries 60/120/180 level 11 credit points.
Selected participants will join a group at a single entry point in each calendar year. An induction day will be provided prior to the start of the programme and each individual participant will have a personal tutor, appointed from within the academic staff group.
Students can elect to enroll for single modules, the postgraduate certificate, the postgraduate diploma or for the full MSc programme. Many of the modules are available as distance learning options with optional workshops on campus. Direct teaching modules will consist of five days of direct teaching employing a range of teaching methods, and five days of structured study time with specific tasks set for students to complete, either individually, or in small groups. These tasks are formative in nature and relate to module assignment. Candidates are expected to critically appraise and reflect upon their practice by drawing on contemporary theory and research.
Assessment for each module is by submission of a 6,000 word assignments or equivalent and for the MSc by presentation of a dissertation of 15,000 words that demonstrates the skills required in planning, implementation and evaluation of a work-based piece of research.
