Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education

Who is this programme for?

The Postgraduate Certificate is designed for academic staff of institutions of Higher Education, who may be new to teaching or who want to develop their existing teaching skills further. All lecturers at University of Dundee are encouraged to complete this Certificate, or an equivalent programme, within a reasonable time of beginning teaching at the University. The first module (LTA) is mandatory for probationary teaching staff at Dundee. The programme is accredited by the Higher Education Academy and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Level of the Programme

The programme is at postgraduate level 11 on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework and its successful graduates gain 60 points at Masters level.

How is the programme delivered?

The programme can be completed by part-time study in a minimum of two years and a maximum of 3 years. The programme is also available as a fully distance learning option.

How is the programme structured?

There are three modules within the programme - two core modules, plus a further module from a range of options, which allows you to tailor the programme to your own practice.

Your choice from a range of options.

A range of modules provides the opportunity for participants to undertake a module of their choice. Topics of currently available modules include Reflection for Professional Practice, Innovations in Higher Education and Learning, Developing Inclusive Curricula in Higher Education, Teaching and Assessing online. This module will normally be taken in the second year of study.

Additional information

Graduates of the programme are eligible to become Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (www.heacademy.ac.uk ) and successful completion of the first module (LTA) leads to Associate status with the Academy. Graduates who are nurse lecturers are eligible to have a recordable qualification registered with the NMC.
