BA Professional Development

The BA Professional Development helps you to develop more effective practice within your own profession.

You will be required to study your own practice; to explore ways in which you can test new ideas and to explore modules of continuing professional development, applying them to your own circumstances. The degree programme is structured in such a way that you follow a core and options sequence, with the core being compulsory and options chosen from a wide range of modules related to your own interests in professional development.

The programme has Named Awards in the following areas:

Who is this programme for?

It is open to people from a wide range of professions and from a wide range of backgrounds including local authority management and administration, education, community education, social work, voluntary sector organisations and private sector companies.

What are the entry requirements?

Entry requirements are dependent on the level at which a participant wishes to gain entry. At SCQF 7 (certificate level) the requirement is 3 Highers or equivalent (such as an access to HE qualification); at SCQF 8 (diploma level) the equivalent of 120 credits; and at SCQF 9 (degree level) entry the equivalent of 240 credits.

Usually participants will also have a professional qualification or experience of working in a profession for a number of years.

Considerable opportunities are available for the accreditation of prior and experiential learning.

How is the programme structured?

The programme has flexible entry and exit points allowing you to enter at a level appropriate to your level of education and experience. You are encouraged to seek credit for prior formal learning and for experience. The programme has 3 levels, the certificate and diploma levels each consist of 6 modules and the degree level consists of 4 modules (see the full module list for further details).

How is the programme delivered?

Study blocks for most modules are optional. The programme has been designed with studying at a distance in mind. For some employers or groups, however, we are happy to construct special programmes of full time on-campus study or part time, mixed mode programmes.

How much does the programme cost?

Please refer to the Tuition Fees website for details of the cost of this programme.
