MSc Applied Professional Studies (with or without Named Awards)

Who is this programme for?

To enable practitioners from a broad range of professions to engage creatively with the concerns of organisations in an informed and research-minded way. The programme is structured in a modular format of 6 modules and can be completed within 3 years. Practitioner research is a central theme of the programme and threaded throughout all module areas are inquiry-based learning activities building towards a Research Project or Dissertation.

How is the programme structured?

Key components of this 6 module programme are: Module content; issues/concerns in professional practice: Inquiry activity/research projects and review of relevant literature, additionally supported by e-learning and workshops when required (see programme structure diagram below)

What Qualification will the students be awarded?

Taking into account participants professional interests and contexts, a series of Named Awards has been constructed, to enable participants to focus on a practical area of professional practice if required. There is also a generic award if participants want to gain a broader learning experience through their programme of study.

The awards within the programme are:

Students may choose to graduate with Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in any of the Named Award areas.

Specific APL and APEL arrangements are available which give entry to both the diploma and dissertation level, eg, Postgraduate TQ(FE) and Postgraduate Diploma in Community Education.

How is the programme delivered?

This flexible programme has been has been developed to enable the participant to undertake 'mixed module' delivery on a part-time basis. The modules may be offered by face to face delivery, distance learning and work-based learning on a two intake basis per year.
