Biography

After graduating I worked as a Fortran programmer and senior consultant for a pensions actuarial consultancy in London, moved to Cambridge to take a PGCE in secondary school physics then combined freelance software development with raising a family in Cambridge. On moving to Dundee, I took the taught masters course where my dissertation was entitled "Profiling for WINDS" (a web-based e-learning sytem) and was employed as a Research Assistant on the RAFT (Remorte Accessible Field Trip) project.

I am currently pursuing a part-time PhD in the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education. The work is a collection of case studies looking at the attitudes and experiences of hospitalised children and parents / carers relating to the child's continuing education and social contact with peers, the attitudes of education, nursing and medical students, and the attitudes of paediatric doctors and teachers. Having spent 2 ˝ years as staff development officer for NHS doctors involved in the delivery of the Dundee medical school undergraduate curriculum, I am now a lecturer at the centre for medical education. When not working, I enjoy music, reading, writing bad poetry and walking the dog.
