
Sobani Devika Priyadarshini Iddamalgoda is a PhD research student in the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka) and the M.A degree in The University of Kelaniya (Sri Lanka). Sobani is trained to Teach in Higher Education by the Staff Development Centre of the University of Colombo where intensive teacher training for Higher Education is conducted by Staff and Educational Development Association (UK).
She taught English for both primary and secondary students in the Sri Lankan educational system. In Aquinas College of Higher Studies, she taught English Literature for students studying for the B.A. degree as external candidates in the Universities of Peradeniya, Jayawardhanapura and Kelaniya. Then she worked for three years as an Educational Assistant (Grade 1) in the Open University of Sri Lanka. Currently she is employed as a lecturer in the English Language Teaching Unit of the University of Colombo.
The focus of Sobani's research study is on 'Speech based English Language learning through synchronous and asynchronous classrooms in Higher Education'.
Her supervisors are Professor Brian Hudson and Dr. Angela Rogers.
Sobani likes to write fiction and poetry. She enjoys nature and meditation.
