“By creating we think, by living we learn” Patrick Geddes
Professor Yolande Muschamp is Dean of the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education.
Before joining Dundee she was Head of the Department of Education at the University of Bath for five years. She started her career as a primary school teacher and moved into local authority advisory work before becoming an educational researcher at the University of the West of England and then the University of Bath.
Her involvement in research projects has focussed particularly on pedagogy and assessment, the role of the teacher, evaluations and critiques of current educational policy and its impact on classroom practice and children's experience in the primary school. She has undertaken national evaluations and reviews of primary education for government departments, worked closely with charities and other NGOs and co-authored with researchers at Glasgow and Edinburgh. In her most recent project she worked with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to explore how out of school experiences supported children's learning with a particular focus on children living in poverty.
