Biography

Kate Martin is Programme Director of the BA Professional Development in the School of ESWCE. She has lectured in Community Education since 1994 supporting students at undergraduate, postgraduate and masters levels. Before joining the University of Dundee, Kate worked in Community Education with Grampian and Highland Councils. Her work in the Highlands involved rural community development and instigation of a range of community enterprises including the Gaelic youth arts organisation, Fèis Rois. In 1990 Kate was seconded to work with Highlands and Islands Enterprise as Community Arts Co-ordinator, funding arts and cultural initiatives across the Highlands and Islands. In 2006 she edited 'Fèis', a book which celebrates the development of the Fèisean (Gaelic Youth Festivals) movement in Scotland. During her time in the Highlands Kate studied with the Open University and developed an interest in open and distance learning. She completed a MEd in Professional Development with the University of Dundee in 2005 and is currently working towards a Professional Doctorate on themes of professional learning.
