David Howe is Professor of Social Work and Head of the School of Social Work and Psychosocial Sciences at University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.
Professor Howe is one of the UK's leading figures in academic social work. His main research interests are in developmental attachment theory, adoption, theory and practice in child and family social work, child abuse and neglect, and disorders of attachment. He has carried out extensive research related to attachment, child abuse and neglect and to the experience of birth mothers, adoptive parents and adult adoptees. He was founding editor of the journal, Child and Family Social Work (1996-2001) and is author of many books, including: Attachment Theory for Social Work Practice; Attachment Theory, Child Maltreatment and Family Support; Child Abuse and Neglect: Attachment, Development and Intervention; and The Emotionally Intelligent Social Worker.
