Due to requests the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, is presenting its 2nd series of trauma seminars in 2011. Again leading practitioners and researchers in the field of traumatic experience have been invited to present.
Following the success of previous events the seminar format includes 4 sessions of presentations and experiential learning activities interspersed with short breaks and lunch.

Evidence-based trauma recovery and resilience building programmes for children across the globe
Dr Ian Barron - The 1st seminar will focus on the delivery and evaluation of trauma recovery programmes for more than 5000 children in Palestine. Lessons learned for supporting children abused and neglected in the UK will be explored.

How best to respond to the complexities of ritual abuse
Dr Derek Farrell, University of Birmingham (Co-Chair EMDR Europe Research Committee and former president (EMDR UK & Ireland)) will present insights on understanding ritual abuse based on his skills as a practitioner as well as evidence from his recent research.

The challenges of working with complex trauma and dissociated experience
Dr Sandi Richman, Traumatic Stress Service, Maudsley Hospital in South London, will share her significant experience of working with the complexities of working with traumatised and disassociated adults.

The journey from harm's way to safe uncertainty: an overview of traumatic events, reactions and responses
Dr Alastair Hull, Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy/Honorary Senior Lecturer, ends the series with an overview of the many faces of trauma from individual to collective events, the varied responders and the responses they provide. It will draw upon research evidence and expert experience and provide a neurobiology-lite underpinning where appropriate.
