Support by funding through HAMSET (HIV/Aids, Malaria and TB Control), the World Bank funding stream to tackle major communicative deceases, the BA Professional Development programme within the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education has successfully secured funding for a further 20 students in Eritrea, one of the countries in the Horn of Africa.
In supporting the continuing professional development needs of managers within Eritrea's Ministry for Health the BA Professional Development in Leadership and Management is providing health managers with relevant knowledge and skill in developing the health infrastructure in one of Africa's newest and poorest country.
Currently there are 16 students completing their final piece of work for the degree which is by distance learning with in-country study weeks every 6 months by a visiting tutor attending the Ministry of Health's learning centre at Orotta Hospital in the country's capital Asmara.
Mike Naulty, Associate Dean for Continuing and Applied Professional Studies says 'this new agreement secures the funding for a second cohort of participants from Eritrea on the BAPD and is a further step in the development of the partnership between the Eritrean Government and the University of Dundee in addressing the growing professional development needs of health professionals in the country'.
