Security of Tower Building, City Campus
During the weekday evenings there is a great deal of activity in the Tower and all evening activities take place on the ground, 1st and 2nd floors.
The following measures to prevent access beyond the second floor and thereby improve security will be implemented with effect from Monday 24 May 2004.
Tower lifts will not operate after 6 pm. Should access be required beyond the second floor, or by disabled persons to any floor, the janitor on duty at Tower Reception should be contacted and he will operate the lift.
The rear (north) doors of the Tower will be locked at 6 pm with entry to the Tower being gained only by the front door although access for disabled persons will be maintained via the rear door.
The doors on the ground, 1st and 2nd floors giving access to the main stairwell will be locked at 6 pm. Emergency access to the main stairwell from 1st and 2nd floor landings will be maintained as will egress from the main stairwell to the ground floor.
The door on 2nd floor giving access to the Tower extension will also be locked at 6 pm. Emergency access will be maintained.
These above measures will improve the safety and security of all staff and students. Any points of difficulty should be referred to Tower Reception (8188) or the Security Manager (4070).
