What is Reneweable Energy at Dundee?

Scotland has a vast renewable energy resource, and is committed to developing and exploiting this with a view to meeting a 20% production target by 2010 and a 40% target by 2020. There are ambitious investment plans in a demonstrable market and a political imperative to succeed in order to meet Kyoto Agreement. Climate change and pollution control are now complex issues that need to be addressed and a new generation of informed managers and technologists are required to meet the challenges.

The University of Dundee is ideally placed to make a contribution to training in this strategic area with its breadth of research expertise that covers the spectrum from solar energy, wind, geothermal and biomass technologies to power management, law and marketing and associated disciplines. There is already a SunCity initiative and a history of research in photovoltaics that highlights Dundee as a centre for solar energy activity. The first thin film solar cell made from amorphous silicon was created in the laboratories in which you will be working.
