Dr Lorraine van Blerk to join PASSPORT Steering Group

Aviva’s Street 2 School international community programme aims to help children living or working in the streets to fulfil their potential through improved access to education or training programmes. Aviva has committed to giving 50% of all community-giving to develop this initiative. The programme was launched in October 2009 with Aviva partnering with Save the Children in India, and since then has built up 23 charity partnerships across its markets in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America. Aviva works with local charity partners in each country, where the projects deliver on the overall objective of helping street children fulfil their potential. The manner in which this is executed varies by project so as to meet the specific needs of the children and young people in the different contexts.

Aviva will conduct a global participatory interim assessment of theirInternational Streetto School (S2S) initiative in 2012, across each of their business regions, with research being conducted inIndia,Italy,Canadaand theUK. To ensure that the learnings from PASSPORT are not just beneficial to the charities taking part, but are also helpful to a broader NGO audience and can be used in advocacy with those influencing policy, Aviva have established a PASSPORT Steering Group to provide guidance and support to the initiative, particularly in the areas of influencing policy and supporting NGO's. Dr Lorraine van Blerk (School of the Environment) has been invited to join a small group of international experts to form this steering group to advise on the process and feed into the report and its dissemination.
