Dr Lorraine van Blerk invited to participate on Overseas Development Institute Expert Panel

Dr Lorraine van Blerk has been invited by the Overseas Development Institute to participate as an external expert in a roundtable forum event, which will follow a public meeting on 5 July.

The public event, entitled ‘Linking Action on Poverty and Child Protection: what do we know? What are the gaps?’ will be screened live online with Lorraineacting as Discussant. Key speakers will include Andrea Torres, Ministry of Social Development/ National Coordinator of Chile Contigo Crece; Reinhard Fichtl, Union of Swiss Banks; Annabel Erulkar, Population Council; and Bekele Tefera, Consultant/Practitioner,Ethiopia.

What does the evidence on linkages between child protection and broader anti-poverty action look like? What are key gaps that need to be filled? What are the implications for future knowledge and action? ODI and the Oak Foundation are hosting this public event to discuss these very questions with particular attention on violence against children, sexual abuse and exploitation, early marriage and inadequate care/neglect of children. Lessons from other areas of child protection will also be discussed.
