This is a three year degree full-time or four years part-time. It is examined by a thesis of 60,000 - 80,000 words, on a topic of your choice (providing we have the staff expertise and resources). This is a one year degree full-time or up to four years part-time. It is examined by a thesis of around 40,000 words, on a topic of your choice (providing we have the staff expertise and resources to supervise it - please see our staff pages for details of our expertise).
Although the MPhil can be converted to a PhD, provided a suitable level of research is obtained, AHRC funding for PhDs now requires that you take a taught Masters degree first.

The entry requirement is normally an upper second class honours degree or equivalent.
