EN52031: Scriptwriting (Theatre, Film, Television and Comics)

The aim of this module is to allow students examine and participate in the process of writing a script and considering how it would work on film, on stage, or on the comics page.
Creative Writing students have the option of writing a script, whereas other students write essays on pre-existing scripts. The aim is to offer a flexible module which would serve the interests of MLitt students engaged in study on film, comics, theatre, or creative writing.
The module offers seminars, practical workshops by industry professionals, alongside individual supervision provided by staff.

- Week 1: Introduction to the course
- Week 2: Writing for Film 1: In Bruges and The Apartment
- Week 3: Writing for Film 2: The Happening and A Perfect Getaway
- Week 4: Writing for the Theatre 1: Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter
- Week 5: Writing for the Theatre 2: Devised Theatre, Tim Crouch and Complicté
- Week 6: Reading Week
- Week 7: Writing for Comics 1: Industry Standard
- Week 8: Writing for Comics 2: The Rise of the Comics Writer: Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison
- Week 9: Workshop with playwright and independent creative time, supported by individual supervision sessions
- Week 10: Workshop with film / TV scriptwriter and independent creative time, supported by individual supervision sessions
- Week 11: Workshop with comics scriptwriter Alan Grant and independent creative time, supported by individual supervision sessions
