EN52010: Postwar American Fiction and Transatlantic Exchange

This module will explore key texts of American literature written after 1945. Using recent theories of the Transatlantic and the postnational, it will explore how history, cultural memory, travel, immigration, literary influence and textual experimentation have played a significant part in both shaping and helping to redefine the American literary landscape.

The option will be organised around 5 seminars, along with structured independent study and online collaboration:

  2. Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita
  3. Paul Auster, The Music of Chance
  4. Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything Is Illuminated
  5. Russell Banks, The Darling
