The Collection of The Big Music Archive
Gail Low, Senior Lecturer in the English programme, says:
"Book historians spend time working in the archives trying to piece together from letters, publishers and editors’ memos, printers’ sheets, the story of a book from idea to published form - and then how it comes to have a life outside its 'pages’. My task has been, and will be, then to collect papers, interviews, artefacts and art works as a record of the life of The Big Music. Not everything can be collected. Ultimately, what exist to be preserved in the archive are only pieces of that story of the book - small but suggestive material manifestations of lives that passed this way. However, in some distant future, there will be much pleasure in the opening of these dusty boxes housed at the University of Dundee, as these shards and fragments of history are brought to life by some careful reader who will, once again, imagine and narrate the story inside and outside the book."
