Major Success for English in RAE 2008

English at Dundee scored highly in the latest 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.

A full 90% of English's research publications between 2001 and 2007 were rated as of international excellence in terms of their 'originality, significance and rigour' and 45% of our research output was rated in the two very highest categories of 'international excellence'.

The RAE English panel found that our output demonstrated 'substantial evidence of internationally excellent and internationally recognised research quality' and judged that the Department's research contained 'world-leading quality'.

Professor Peter Kitson, the English programme's research officer and Chair of the School of Humanities Research Committee, comments that 'this result shows a substantial improvement on English's research grading in the 2001 RAE. We are delighted that the RAE has judged 90% of our research to be internationally excellent and found strong elements of world-leading research among our profile. This result is a serious testament to the hard work of all our members of staff. We are proud of our high quality research and that are teaching is fully informed by this research.'
