October 2003
Dr Jane Stabler has just won the Rose Mary Crawshay Prize for her book Byron,Poetics and History.
The book uses new archival research into Byron’s correspondence and reading to trace the complexities of his work. Dr. Stabler argues that from his early satires to Don Juan, Byron’s poetics developed in response to his reception by the English reading public.
The Rose Mary Crawshay Prize is awarded by the British Academy for outstanding published works by women on any subject connected with English Literature. Established in 1888, it is judged by the council of the British Academy. Jane Stabler holds the award jointly with Claire Tomalin for her biography of Samuel Pepys.
