Since 2003 Dundee English postgraduates have been running annual conferences in collaboration with the Scottish Word and Image Group (SWIG), based in Aberdeen and Gray’s School of Art from 1994 and transferring to Dundee in 2004. SWIG is an interdisciplinary network researching the rich and multifarious relations between words and images in our culture, in all their forms and media. Conference topics have been devised by Dundee PGs themselves, though designed to complement SWIG’s own annual conferences. Each year the conference has attracted papers from other Scottish universities and Art Colleges, as well as institutions in the rest of the UK, mainland Europe and as far afield as the USA and Japan.
