In 2011 the University of Dundee announced The Tartan Bucket Prize, a partnership between the School of Humanities and DC Thomson, the Dundee-based publisher of comics such as The Dandy and The Beano, and beloved characters such as The Broons and Oor Wullie. The aim of the prize was to encourage the creation of a humorous story in the DC Thomson style, and to provide a forum for the emerging comics creators.

- The joint runners up were Adam Smith with “Holly Unlikely”, Stephen Baskerville’s “The Ape Prentice”, Jamie Huxtable’s “Elly’s Evil Teddy”, and Paul Rainey’s “Jack the Robot”. These runners-up received £250, a certificate and publication of their strips.
