Amin occupies a personal chair of Functional Materials & Photonics at the University of Dundee and holds an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (2010-2015) and EPSRC Developing Research Leaders Award (2012-2014). He directs research in the following three areas within the Materials, Photonics and Smart Systems (MAPS) grouping at Dundee: i) Fabrication, characterisation and processing of metal-glass nanocomposites for storage of information, sensing, circuitry, security, and production of diffractive optical elements; ii) Laser micro/nano processing of metals and composites for applications in physical chemistry, surface engineering, energy sector, healthcare and creative industries; iii) Various aspects of a novel crystal optics phenomenon for applications in optical physics and physical optics.
Amin is a member of the EPSRC College, the Institute of Physics (IoP) and the Optical Society of America (OSA). To date he holds a number of patents and have contributed over 100 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, proceedings and international conferences.
