We are committed to excellence in both teaching and research, and our division boasts a proud tradition with both endeavours dating back over one hundred years. The following pages contain information about the division and the members of staff.
The division consistently achieves very high assessments for the quality of our courses, and indeed, the University as a whole received the highest teaching quality rating of all UK universities in a recent survey by The Times newspaper. The division is also placed within the top ten Scottish physics departments, as highlighted in 2009's Guardian Higher Education League Tables.
Prominent past successes have included the wartime development of RADAR by Robert Watson Watt and, more recently, the development of amorphous silicon thin film devices, a cornerstone of the multi-million dollar electronic display industry.
