Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE)

Our taught MSc courses in mainstream Economics and Finance are delivered through the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE) of which we are a founding member.

The SGPE is a collaborative undertaking between the eight established Scottish universities: Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Herriot-Watt, St. Andrews, Stirling and Strathclyde. What drives this successful collaboration is the ability to combine our research and teaching expertise so that we can deliver a high-quality in economics.

Logistically, every 5 years one of the institutions tenders to host the Programme. The administrative offices of the SGPE are based within the hosting institution where the teaching of all MSc courses also takes place. Currently, the University of Edinburgh hosts the SGPE; all MSc students are therefore physically located in Edinburgh and are registered with the University of Edinburgh.

The full-time MSc is taught over one year - September to September; it can also be taken over two years as part-time. Upon completing the MSc, students can opt for a further three years study towards a PhD (Doctorate) at any of the partner universities.
