Martin Chalkley is a Professor at the Centre for Health Economics, University of York. He is also an editor of the Journal of Health Economics and an associate editor of the Bulletin of Economic Research. He studied economics at the Universities of Southampton and Warwick, from where he obtained his PhD in 1986. He began his career as a lecturer at Southampton University in 1985 and from 1999 to 2011 was Professor of Economics at the University of Dundee. At Dundee he played a leading role in the establishment of the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics (SIRE) and was made director of its Work and Wellbeing programme, contributing to the development of an active group of researchers in this area. Martin continues to collaborate with colleagues in Dundee. His honorary appointment recognises his past contribution and his continuing involvement with the University.
