The MSc International Business Programme

Students can join the MSc Programme either in September or January each year and choose any of the following degrees:

  • MSc International Business
  • MSc International Business and Finance
  • MSc International Business and Marketing
  • MSc International Business and Human Resource Management
  • MSc International Business, Marketing and Human Resource Management

These degrees are directed towards motivated students who hold a good graduate degree (BA/ BSc/BTech/BEng/BCom). Their purpose is to enable students to acquire the necessary tools and skills to pursue a successful career in International Business, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management.

MSc graduates may work in small firms, in large multinational firms with offices throughout the world, in the public sector, or in International and charitable organisations. There is an enormous variety of work that includes meeting a wide cross-section of different people, giving advice, and providing management and technical services.

  • Taught 'full time' programme for a period of twelve months

  • An intensive Induction Programme covering essential elements in Economics and Statistics lays the basis for the Programme
  • Students take a total of 10 modules: each degree pathway has some compulsory core modules and a choice of optional modules
  • All students write a business project during the summer term, which offers them an opportunity to analyse data and write a business report

Programme Structure

The foundation Economics and Statistics for Business module is taught in the first two weeks and thereafter the core and optional modules are taught throughout the year of study.

The choice of optional modules will vary from year to year. The list is extensive, covering aspects of international regulation, business strategy, marketing, finance and human resources managament. You can see module descriptors on the Modules page of this website.

Teaching Methods

Modules are taught using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, workshops, groupwork and student presentations where appropriate. A feature of the programme is the Distinguished Visitor and Enterprise Gym Lecture Series. In each session distinguished practitioners in the field are invited to the University to hold a seminar highlighting critical aspects of International Business. It offers students a unique opportunity to hear the views of leading practitioners and to obtain advice on potential career paths from them.

Assessment

All modules are assessed by coursework (including oral presentations) and final examination. Coursework may account for as much as 40 per cent of the overall degree.
