Dr Steve Jones wins award for his book 'Doing Well and Doing Good'

Dr Steve Jones has been awarded the 2011 Archives and Records of New Zealand (ARANZ) Ian Wards prize for his book, 'Doing Well and Doing Good'. The prize is awarded annually to an outstanding piece of writing which in the view of the judging panel also demonstrates exemplary and/or innovative use of primary resources. The book provides a history of the firm of Ross & Glendining, telling the story of one of New Zealand's best known enterprises from its establishment in Dundedin during the gold rush of the 1860s, through its heyday in the early 20th century, to its post war decline in the 1950s and eventual demise in 1966. Beyond being the history of one firm, the book illuminates developments and issues in the New Zealand and wider world economy over a century.
