The University of Dundee pays particular attention to ensuring that those students with special needs are given the opportunity to participate fully in the life of the university, both in terms of academic studies and also social activities. The University of Dundee's Disability Support Centre plays the central, co-ordinating role in the drive to ensure that the University is accessible to all students, regardless of what special needs they may have. Students who have special needs, or think that they may have but are not sure, should contact the Disability Support Centre. Their dedicated team, led by the special needs co-ordinator Di Shaw, will provide students with a friendly, professional service.
An important part of the University-wide network that the Disability Support Centre has built up is the presence of a Disability Support Officer in each department. This person is the link between the Disability Support Centre and the rest of the department, responsible for the two-way flow of information and ensuring that any special arrangements that are required by students with special needs are acted upon. He⁄she is also a ‘local’ point of contact for students who have special needs.
In the case of Economic Studies, the Disability Support Officer is Paul Seaman. Any student wishing to discuss special needs issues with a member of Economic Studies staff are warmly invited to talk to him.
His office is on the first floor of the Economic Studies building. For students with physical disabilities arrangements can be made for a meeting at a more suitable location.
