Dundee University Press is committed to ensuring the best possible exposure for all its titles, both in the book trade and with the target end-users.
Our sales and marketing activities are overseen by DUP director Alan Leitch, who has worked in the academic and specialist book trade for over 25 years. His extensive experience includes senior management roles in both bookselling and publishing sales with the likes of Blackwell's UK and Routledge/Taylor & Francis, giving him a unique experience of the UK market. Alan is currently Marketing Director of John Smith & Son, which includes the leading chain of university bookshops in Scotland, England and Eire and the specialist Hammicks legal business.
Representation to the UK book trade is handled by Compass Academic, a specialist independent sales agency for academic publishers - they provide comprehensive coverage of the Scottish and broader UK markets, including campus and major High Street bookshops, other specialist accounts, Amazon.co.uk, library suppliers and wholesalers, as well as regular head office liaison with all the main bookselling chains.
However, we recognise that it is never enough simply to get stock onto bookshop shelves - each title needs to be actively promoted to the target audience via review coverage in relevant (specialist) journals, mailings and other marketing activities.
At the time we send you a signed contract for your publication, we will therefore also forward a copy of our comprehensive AUTHOR QUESTIONNAIRE which we would ask you to spend some time to complete carefully and thoroughly.
The information you provide on this form will enable us to prepare an individual marketing plan for your book and in particular to:
Your book will also be featured on the Dundee University Press website.
Distribution for Dundee University Press titles is via Booksource, the leading Scottish book distributor based in Glasgow.
