The Dundee Fellowship Scheme

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 23 January 2013, click here to apply

Dundee Fellows will be appointed to a permanent academic post, mostly but not exclusively at Lecturer level.  There may be some flexibility to offer positions at Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professorial level in exceptional circumstances.

We are particularly keen to make theses appointments attractive to candidates who are typically under represented in the areas of Art, Science and Engineering by offering flexibility and support through part time or full time contracts, flexible working hours and child care or carer support.

Postholders will retain the title of Dundee Fellow for the first 5 years of their appointment automatically, transferring to the regular academic title of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer/Reader or Professor at the end of the 5 year Fellowship period depending upon the level of progression and promotion after 5 years of being appointed.

Fellows will be appointed to research and teaching contracts.  They will have a workload during the first 5 years of appointment which will be heavily focused on research although it will contain some teaching responsibility, which will gradually increase over the 5 years of the Fellowship to develop their teaching experience, including PhD supervision.

Dundee Fellows will have a 3 year probation period. Probation will ensure high quality mentoring, training and staff development, but this mentoring, training and development will continue throughout the 5 year period, beyond the completion of probation, in a dedicated support package.

Mentoring and staff training is a crucial element of the scheme. The Dundee Fellows will be treated as a single cohort, regularly bringing them together for training, for example in:

Dundee Fellows will be offered a tailored and supportive programme in addition to the usual training offered to all academic staff appointments and any existing disciplinary based training events in the School that they are appointed within.

Moreover, the Dundee Fellows will be brought together once appointed on a regular basis to celebrate their major achievements, for example in a series of sessions for school children or public lectures. This also will provide a peer group network for these Fellows in the University, where they can share experiences, especially in terms of building their careers and international networks, and also inter-disciplinary collaboration amongst them.
