Research Projects

2008-09 Technology Strategy Board Award (Feasibility Study)

Principal Investigator: Criminal Evidence Gathering Filters / feasibility report // Ref: AK241L

To devise a system for reviewing police cases that are current, but not moving, and historical cases that are being reviewed. The system developed would aim to achieve a greater clarity towards summarizing the known individual elements that relate to the understanding and make up of a case.

To effect a greater level of clarity , understanding and comprehension of the essential elements of a case for those assigned to manage that process and to evoke a greater level of connectivity with the public by both gaining their interest and focus as individuals or stimulating debate I have identified and formed the key relationships with the key relationships from the legal, police service, academic and private sectors who as usability practitioners, information architects, software developers and designers can deliver this product.

Research Proposal AHRC (in preparation) 2009
Scottish Boat Building and Marine Heritage and economic development.

"Boat manufacturing" in Scotland is estimated at £5 million compared to £939 million  in England. This is from the KPI of  2007/8 therefore includes leisure and small commercial marine."
( Karen Boss , Researcher , British Marine federation )

The UK's  coastline is long in comparison to the UK's area and to the coasts of some other, similar sized countries; - the length of the UK coastline is around 12,500kms or 7,760 miles*.  We estimate (piece of string!) that it is about 5000 miles around the coast of mainland Britain - excluding all islands.
Around 60% of our coastline is located in Scotland and the  off-shore island.

Research question and enquiry.
To consider why Scotland's Boat building Heritage isn't better reflected in the present time , in the form of a sustainable production boat, produced and built in Scotland that reflects the image and characteristics  of  that heritage and  provenance.
