Biography

Louise Johnstone completed an MA in English Literature and Psychology at Edinburgh University in 1972 and then qualified as a teacher, teaching for 10 years before applying to study Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone.

After graduating in 1987, Louise had her first solo show and returned to Duncan of Jordanstone part time, to lead art history seminars. Shortly thereafter she was invited to contribute lectures in History and Theory of Art for the Foundation programme. Since 1998 she has delivered the core Fine Art component of the foundation year history and theory programme and, from 2002, has co-ordinated both the Art and Design elements of that programme.

From 1998-2000 she was responsible for the design and delivery of outreach workshops for teachers of art and design around Scotland. In 2001 she was the designer and course leader of a CPD course in 'Contemporary and Contextual Studies' - a year-long distance learning course.

Louise has delivered lectures, seminars and colloquium to second and third year Fine Art students, marked essays and assessed Fine Art dissertations.  She has run workshops for staff on using and developing the VLE. She was also a tutor for drawing and painting with the Open College of Art for three years.

Louise is a practising artist who has taken part in eight solo shows and many group shows.  She has also written a number of articles to accompany artist catalogues.

Since 2000 she has been a fund raiser for RUDA UK a small charity working in Tanzania.
