Biography
The core of my research activity is in the origination of sculptural work, essentially in plaster for specific venues and curated exhibitions. The works are often related to settings with a cultural or historic resonance that questions the nature and impact of the work to a contemporary audience. In line with this output I have increasingly developed ideas of a curated research project whereby works in plaster from across the 20th and 21st centuries are brought together in a virtual way to understand how a single material has impacted on contemporary sculpture. A paper on this subject has been delivered at the annual Association of Art Historians on this project. In line with this emphasis on plaster and sculpture I have been invited as a specialist in this area to submit ideas for a commissioned work to celebrate the opening of the new plaster cast courts in the V and A London. Currently I am completing a commission to install a series of sculptural reliefs in the new headquarters of the Dundee District council. These works originate as plaster reliefs and through an innovative process and working with architects and construction managers, result in works being part of the cast concrete walls throughout the building.
