Biography
Frances Stevenson is a Printed Textile Practitioner and Senior Lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee.
In 1997 Frances set up in business as a 'designer maker' with the support of the Scottish Arts Council. This enabled her to exhibit and sell her work nationally and internationally. This small business experience led to her current PhD research that looks to progress our understanding of the value of craft within contemporary culture through understanding and developing evaluation methods of craft process and products. She is undertaking her PhD research as part of the AHRC funded project 'Past, Present and Future Craft Practice'.
Teaching remains at the heart of all Frances' interests. It is through her practice and research that she develops and nurtures appropriate teaching approaches, so that the student learning experience is continually enhanced.
Her research, teaching and practice are connected as they explore Craft and Textile Design within contemporary and future contexts.
