DCA   Dundee Contemporary Arts

DJCAD has a very special and close relationship with Dundee Contemporary Arts, a leading arts complex in the UK. This relationship is conducted on many levels: the University is a partner in the cultural initiative that established DCA Ltd in 1998; several of its staff serve on its company board of directors; the Visual Research Centre occupies the bottom two floors of the DCA; and most importantly many of DJCAD's researchers contribute to a myriad of activities staged within the DCA programme.

Activities have included: joint residencies (Scottish Arts Council, European Media Art Research Exchange); festivals (Kill Your Timid Notion, 2005/6/7- a unique festival of avant-garde sound art and film); symposia (e.g. Breathing Space: Architecture and Health - Frank Gehry's Maggie's Centre, Dundee Symposium, 2003, and Writing Scottish Art, 2006).

The total size of the VRC including the Springfield annex, is 1,322 square metres. At its heart is Centrespace, a test space for exposition, events and displays of all kinds, (20 metres x 10 metres x 5 metres in height.
