Product Design

Product Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will train you to design products that work. You will design products that people can get their hands on, play with, admire, tell people about and ultimately want as their own. The course isn't just about creating something, it's about researching how people and technology work together to improve the world. Some of the questions that you will consider are Who are you designing for? Do we need plastics? How can product design help the world? What is going to happen when the world starts to run out of resources? What kind of product can I create that will make someone's life easier or more enjoyable?

The course is taught jointly by Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Mechanical Engineering at the College of Art, Science & Engineering. This joint approach means you will be just as confident at working on an engineering project as you will be discussing design history.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

• understand product design and innovation
• engage with people to solve problems
• use complex engineering skills and computer aided design
• create your own product from original concept to completed, functional item
