Jamie Shek

Course: Master of Design
Date: 2009-2010

Jamie ShekTaking part on the Masters of Design course was a very valuable experience for me. Leading into the course I had a strong interest in Interaction Design and Technology. My ambitions were to learn how I could use my skills as an Interaction Designer to make viable products and services, providing solutions to real world problems and opportunities. I believe that to become a successful designer you must be aware of the various other design disciplines in addition to your own area of expertise.

The MDes programme is an ideal platform in which you can learn from your peers and tutors, through collaborations and various other mechanisms (such as discussions and workshops). The vibrant studios provide an ideal working environment to facilitate this. The Masters of Design course opens doors to new networks of people including industry professionals and alumni who are ready and willing to help you develop as a designer.

I currently run my own business called iGiveADamn offering digital solutions, such as web and mobile app design. Our key focus is on building meaningful products and services with a strong social benefit.  My advice to anyone considering the course is; if you are prepared to step into unfamiliar territory throughout your journey you well leave the course a better person, a better designer and be more attractive to employers.
