Master of Design for Services - FAQs

Master of Fine Art

Are you like other Masters Programmes?

No. We're interested in providing tools for students to navigate from where they are now to where they'd like to be involved in the Design of Services. We're less focussed on improving technical skills (though we do do some strategic info design, and basic presentation stuff). We focus on the triple bottom line, people, planet and profit. Students define where they sit within those challenges and undertake projects that take them there.

Do I need to have studied Design?

No, but you need to be able to demonstrate that you have an understanding of current issues in design and that you are able or willing to visualize or embody ideas. Qin Han - one of our graduates who is about to complete a PhD at the University of Dundee has a background in Computer Science: through mindmapping and diagramming she can visualize the relationship between management and design creating new insights into Service Design

Do you ask for a portfolio?

If you would like us to look at relevant visual work - send us a web-link with your application. If you don't come from a design background you probably don't have a portfolio- we'll discuss this when we chat...

Is there an interview?

No - but we'd like to chat to you by phone or Skype before you submit an application. Contact Course Leader, Hazel White, h.white@dundee.ac.uk to arrange this.
