|Qualification:||MFA Art & Humanities|
|Course Length:||1 Year|
Artists have never been shy of addressing the important issues in life: thinking through practice in paint or wood, performance art or installation, photography or video, prints or artist’s books. Creative thinkers engage with the most basic, and timely, ideas. Artistic practices built on a foundation of learning and critical thinking is a feature of this course. In this postgraduate course you will read, write and work creatively, combining academic studies in the traditional humanities with contemporary art. Two research methods, two ways of working, are synthesised by each student in distinctive skills building, research and discovery.
Students are taught by staff in two schools, art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and academic studies in the school of Humanities. DJCAD is ranked top in Scotland for world-leading research in art & design. Research in the Humanities is also in the ‘internationally leading’ and ‘excellent’ categories, as is the teaching quality.
Interdisciplinary research projects shared between staff in art and design and humanities are examples of research-led teaching at its most effective, offering students outstanding potential to learn from leading researchers.
Individual attention, one-to-one tutorials, and supportive small group seminars provide an encouraging and stimulating environment for personal achievement. Excellent facilities, libraries and studio spaces allow each day to become a rewarding step in learning. International networks of artists, scholars and professionals brings a global perspective to learning in Scotland in world-class university education.
We draw upon the diverse, unique and internationally acclaimed research conducted at DJCAD. In the Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF) Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design was rated as the top institution in Scotland for world-leading research in art and design and in the UK top 10.
