'Velvet Venom' is the first diffusion collection from DJCAD graduate Hayley Scanlan, produced to cope with intense demand for her work, which has become a favourite of stars including Jessie J and Little Mix. It features her trademark simple silhouettes combined with striking detail and embellishment. The collection will be unveiled against a backdrop of some of the world's greatest fashion images, currently on display at The McManus as part of the `Selling Dreams: 100 Years of Fashion Photography' exhibition. A Textile Design graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) has won the Graduate Showcase prize at The Festival of Quilts. Sarah Stewart, who received her degree earlier this year, took the prize at the Festival, the largest of its kind in Europe. She won £1000 to spend on materials for her entry, which was taken from her Degree Show. The entry included pieces of hand dyed, printed and embroidered material, which are intended to be used for fashion design. A Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design student whose severe allergies left her bed-bound, depressed and facing the prospect of dropping out is using her experiences to help others similarly affected by allergies and intolerances. Eilidh Ellery suffers from an acute intolerance to Salicylates, a derivative of salycilic acid, which occurs naturally in plants. Two entrepreneurial projects from students at the University of Dundee were today each awarded £2500 after they were named winners of the 2012 Venture Programme competition. A designer accessory for junior doctors and a new medical device with applications for biopsy and anaesthesia were the winning entries in this year's competition, which offers up to £5000 seed money for researchers to turn their ideas into commercial applications.
