More than 100 students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design have graduated in this year’s University of Dundee winter ceremonies. The morning ceremony on Thursday, November 20 saw graduands joining friends, family and colleagues from across the University in Dundee’s picturesque Caird Hall. Businesswoman and charity campaigner, Ann Gloag OBE, who co-founded the international transport company Stagecoach Group, received an honorary degree. Craft and design enthusiasts are being invited to `Make Shift Do’ as part of a nationwide mini-festival of craft and innovation. Alexandra Ross secures Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in South Africa

Alexandra Ross, who recently completed a practise-led PhD at DJCAD has secured a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Centre for Curating the Archive (CCA), in the prestigious Michaelis Art School, University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her practise-led PhD culminated in a thesis entitled: Continuous Curatorial Conversations: An Exploration of the Role of Conversation within the Writing of a Supplementary History of the Curatorial. Deborah Pow, a third year Illustration student has been named the winner of the third annual KCA Alumni Award. The award is open to second and third year students undertaking full time undergraduate study at DJCAD, part of the University of Dundee. The award was set up by Mr Kevin Li, the Creative Director of KEASS Creative Association. Currently based in Chengdu, China, Kevin graduated from DJCAD with a degree in Time Based Art & Digital Film at DJCAD in 2004. Social digital lecturer Graham Pullin has written the cover feature for the November edition of leading design magazine Icon. 'Someone else’s shoes’ looks at prosthetics and how carbon-fibre running blades have transformed athletics. Graham said: “A more sophisticated approach is needed to the use of materials - considering their tactile qualities and cultural associations, not just their technical properties.
