3. Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice

Founded in 1969, the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice is a vibrant center for Printmaking and Book Arts in the historical heart of one of the most beautiful art capitals in the world. Each month Italian and international artists come together to work in the Scuola's independent Studio Internazionale di Grafica. These 1 to 12 week Residencies in well equipped print studios are an opportunity to exchange inspirations, ideas, experiences and techniques, and explore and expand their individual creative work.

A Residency at the Studio Internazionale di Grafica provides the unique opportunity to experience Venice as an independent working artist in the Studio's international creative community. Residents draw inspiration from both the historical masterpieces and the contemporary arts scene which Venice offers, from one's fellow artists and the knowledgeable staff at the Studio, as well as from the simple joys of daily life in the magic that is Venice.

The Scuola is affiliated with institutions such as Vermont Studio Center, Boston University, Indiana University, as well as Italian Academies of Fine Arts and Museums. Among the international artists who have taught, lectured and worked at the Scuola are Henry Goetz, Stanley Hayter, John Ross, Michael Mazur, Clare Romano, Robert Storr and Jon Gregg, founder of the Vermont Studio Center.

8. Peter Potter Gallery - Call for artists: paper

The Monument Project I: Paper

Over the course of 2012-13, the Peter Potter Gallery will be running The Monument Project, a series of four exhibitions and associated residencies, events and workshops, as well as the gallery’s ongoing archaeological research partnership in the region. This project will be a cumulative exploration of the relevance of the monument to contemporary art, creating original interpretations of monumentality for the 21st century. Written histories rely on ephemera – the process of revealing and exploring the past is dependent on these most vulnerable of artefacts, and most human. We invite artists to submit proposals for an exhibition which will not only explore the historical value of ephemera, but will also be constructed entirely from paper. We are particularly interested in sculptural works/installations which are ambitious in scale and will fully occupy our 20’ square exhibition space.  Paper is a sculptural material with limitless potential. It can be cut, moulded, mashed, ripped, torn, shredded, compressed, carved, layered, dyed, painted, drawn on, varnished, folded or glued. It can be used to create sculpture that is enduring and solid, or the most delicate and vulnerable tissue-thin works, intended only to survive the length of the exhibition. The material and the theme are therefore inseparable here, as both highlight the durability of this fragile material.  This commission will go to the project that shows the greatest originality, sensitivity and ambition, and both established and early career artists are welcomed to apply.  Please email proposals with C.V. and up to ten images of recent work (or website address) to Kate Kilpatrick: kate.ppgallery@yahoo.co.uk.  Artist's Fee: Approx £1000 per contributing artist (final amount to be confirmed), up to a maximum of £3000. Collaborations welcome.  Find us on facebook or visit our website at www.peterpottergallery.org for more information about the gallery.   For further information, please contact kate.ppgallery@yahoo.co.uk (Kate Kilpatrick), or call 01620 822080, or visit http://www.peterpottergallery.org.

Deadline is Friday 6 April 2012 at 00:00
