Principal's Welcome
I am pleased to welcome you to the University of Dundee. We all have something in common, in that we are all starting in new roles - for you as new students, for me as a new Principal. Together we face the challenges presented by new experiences, new systems and new learning. However, we are doing all of this in a University that prides itself on its vibrant learning culture. We are committing to a culture in which students and staff can explore, develop and test ideas, and where accepted ways of thinking can be challenged and improved. One of our earliest and most distinguished Professors, Sir Patrick Geddes put it well:
Whatever subject or discipline you are studying and wherever you are based as you study with us I hope you will find your time with the University of Dundee stimulating, challenging and, ultimately, fulfilling. We know you have a busy lifestyle, that's why we have developed our distance learning provision with you in mind. Our programmes complement, rather than conflict with your schedule. Many of our programmes involve situated learning, where you are required to reflect upon theory and practice, and will contribute to the development of your effectiveness in the workplace. As a university we are committed to renewal and continued preparation for sustained success in a rapidly changing world. However as things change around us, our three key goals remain:
Once again: Welcome to the University of Dundee and to our ever-widening community of distance learners. Pete Downes, Principal & Vice-Chancellor | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
