Research in Dentistry in Dundee

ResearchDictionary

The University of Dundee is highly regarded internationally for its excellence in biomedical and life sciences research. It is one of the few universities in the UK and the only one on Scotland where Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing are integrated in one College and this provides unique opportunities for clinicians and researchers to interact for mutual benefit. The Dental Health Services Research Unit, which works closely with Population Health Sciences researchers in the Medical School, also interfaces closely with the staff at the Dundee Dental School and Hospital. Our overall strategy is to deliver focussed research of the highest quality that is recognised nationally and internationally as excellent and which has positive and broad impacts. Dentistry research was awarded the top grade (grade 5 on a scale of 1-5) for its research in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in the UK. In 2008 the RAE identified that 50% of the Dental research in the University of Dundee was internationally excellent, 10% was world leading and Dundee had one of the highest returns in the UK in terms of the proportion of our teaching staff who are research active.
