BIOGRAPHY

Andy Milligan is an active researcher and interior design educator. He worked for award winning practice Nicoll Russell Studios and held a brief commercial post with the RIAS, the Royal Incorporation for Architects in Scotland. He is a Fellow of the HEA, the Higher Education Academy, and initiated the Interiors Forum Scotland in 2004, www.interiorsforumscotland.com , an Interior Design / Interior Architecture research network with research colleagues at Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Napier University, Glasgow Metropolian College and Glasgow Calaedonian University. The IFS held its inaugural international interiors conference, Thinking Inside the Box: New Visions, New Horizons & New Challenges at the Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, in March 2007. The IFS also designed an exhibition in the Young Designers Gallery, which for the first time presented project work from years one to four from all five IFS member institutions. The IFS will be their second international conference in Edinburgh 21 & 22August 2008. The IFS published the first of a series of works, ‘Thinking Inside the Box: A Reader in Interiors for the 21st Century’, published by Middlesex University Press in Nov 2007 and available at www.mupress.co.uk/products.asp?category=Design+and+Architecture. Andy is the Scottish regional representative of the UK Interior Educators Council, and holds a Pg Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education. Andy has, over a sixteen year period, taught a wide range of art and design subjects at both further and higher art and design institutions in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow and is now the Programme Director for the BDes Hons Interior & Environmental Design programme at DJCAD, Dundee. He contributed to Dundee’s first on-line Blackboard blended learning course in PG Creative & Contemporary Practice, and has worked on several in- service / CPD events with design teachers and college lecturers. Andy has presented at major design conferences and exhibited in the UK, Canada, Czech Rep, Germany, and Finland.
