International Prevention Research Institute (IPRI)
What is IPRI?
IPRI (international prevention research institute) is a new concept in biomedical research combining a thorough, high-level, academic approach coupled with a practical focus on providing clear information about evidence-based clinical, epidemiological and prevention strategies.
IPRI serves as an independent authoritative source of advice on critical risk issues and as a high-level training centre in all aspects of Prevention research.
IPRI Mission
With an outstanding faculty and international expertise, our mission is to bring the available excellence in scientific method to clarify critical issues in disease determination and prevention in order to contribute to the improvement in health of populations worldwide.
In some cases, there will be adequate evidence available to draw conclusions; in others studies will need to be interpreted to allow conclusions to be drawn; and in other situations studies will need to be organized and established to provide missing evidence.
IPRI main areas of activity
- Cancer
- Vascular Disease
- Diabetes
- Osteoporosis
- Urological Disease
- Aetiology
- Health Risk Assessment
- Health Technology Assessment
- Meta-analysis
- Aetiological Studies
- Intervention Studies
- Therapeutic and Prevention Trials
IPRI services
IPRI offers its services to public or private bodies to provide and evaluate evidence-based information on topics relevant to prevention. Our portfolio is the following:
- IPRI provides evidence-based epidemiological and prevention information on health risks associated with environmental causes that is not biased by beliefs or a political agenda.
- IPRI undertakes international, collaborative studies through a franchise concept with selected high-quality Institutes around the world.
- IPRI addresses epidemiological and medical aspects of health risk assessment, i.e., what is the evidence that a specific exposure is causally linked with a specific human health problem?
- IPRI defends high standards of epidemiological and clinical research science, with a hierarchy between studies for establishing a cause-effect relationship, i.e: consensus building between experts having no conflict of interest; systematic reviews with meta-analysis or pooled data analysis; randomized trials; observational studies; and ecological studies.
- IPRI proposes technical support to authorities, companies and scientists proposing a new diagnostic interventions for preliminary studies, for improving such studies in the context of translational studies, and for conducting clinical studies leading to submission for approval by regulatory bodies.
IPRI Training programme
- IPRI has set up an training policy for internal and external trainees through the research projects involved;
- IPRI staff are well known scientists with academic affiliations;
- IPRI has an academic partnership with the University of Dundee (“iPRI-Dundee”) which allows the supervision of PhD students involved in iPRI studies;
- IPRI-Dundee will hold an annual Summer School aimed at participants from low- income and lower-middle income countries on Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Global Health;
- IPRI will engange itself in the preparation and management of training courses around the world
